Below are short profiles of each of our coaches outlining their qualifications, experience and coaching philosophy.

Personal skating levels/experience:
Gold Tests - Figure, Freestyle, Dance and Senior Competitive Singles. National Singles
Competitor.
Number of years experience:
20 years NCCP
Qualifications:
Level 2 certified, GOLD CEP Status
Other skating experience/specialties:
Certified to teach skating skills, free skate, ice dance, interpretive, power skating, CanSkate, synchronized skating, and stroking. I also do music editing.
Other personal/educational info:
I have had skaters compete at the National StarSkate, Eastern Challenge, and Eastern Festival Synchronized skating competitions. I also have had numerous skaters medal at Provincial StarSkate and Sectional Competitions. I volunteer in numerous positions with the NS Skating Coaches Association. I was a Finalist in the 2009 & 2010 Best of the Best CanSkate Coaches. I was invited to attend the 2010 Best Of the Best CanSkate Training and National Coaches Conference. I was awarded the Skate Canada Nova Scotia Volunteer Coach Award in 2006
Coaching philosophy:
I truly believe all Canadians should learn to skate. Skating is a stepping stone to so many other activities, or just for recreation. I try to inspire my skaters to develop skating & life skills, fitness, sportsmanship and teamwork while having fun!

Other personal/educational info: Have taught skaters up to the Senior Bronze Level, Junior and Senior Stroking, Head Coach of the Junior Development program, Development Synchro, Head Coach of the Ice Dazzlers Juvenile Synchro Team. I have run the Canskate and Pre-School programs when the head coach is away.
Coaching philosophy: My goal as a coach is to hopefully instill a love of skating into skaters of all ages and abilities. I am a strong believer in good sportsmanship & a positive attitude. I want skating to be fun for my skaters, and a learning experience that can last them a lifetime. I have a true love for skating and children and I am blessed to be able to have a career that lets me do something I truly love and enjoy.

I graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and am currently enrolled in the 16 month Education program at Acadia University. I also play hockey on a Senior Womens Team and am a referree with West Hants Minor Hockey. I am very involved in 4-H as a member and have worked as a Summer Assistant for the past two summers.

I love coaching and watching skaters develop their skills. I love to see my skaters take pride in their accomplishments.

Certified as a Primary Judge for competitions. 8 years as Program Assistant for Canskate; and have competed Synchro for 4 years, 1 year on the Acadia University team. I am training for music editing. I have attended AGM’s, skating clinics, and judging courses to further my knowledge.
Coaching philosophy:
I love to skate myself and have been taught so many life skills through skating which have opened my eyes to all the wonderful opportunities in the world of skating. I look forward to passing on spirit, passion and amazing life skills which will help my skaters in the coming years. .

10 years as a Program Assistant for Canskate; 1 year as Program Assistant with a development synchronized skating program, I have competed in Synchronized skating for 4 years, including one year on the Provincial team and one year for Acadia University. I have also been partnering dances at the Preliminary and Jr. Bronze level in the past two years.
Other personal/educational info:
I have 6 years of formal training in ballet, tap and jazz, and currently I play softball, soccer and volleyball. I am an active member of Girl Guides of Canada, and participate in many activities and service projects in my community. I have lots of experience as a Program Instructor for youth as my most recent employment was with the Town of Windsor teaching soccer, basic skating, floor hockey and basketball.
Coaching philosophy:
My coaching philosophy is based on my belief that strong communication is the key to successful relationships. I want to have open communication with the parents of my skaters. I want to know and understand my skaters as people. I believe my role as a coach places me in a unique and privileged position to impart to my students not only technical training but also guide my skaters on their path to developing other skills they will carry to every part of their life: determination, discipline and understanding the value of hard work- the parts of skating that develop your confidence and self esteem. Skating offers a real opportunity to do this while engaging in a sport that is a joyful experience.
